The goal of the Prenatal Program is to promote optimal health and wellness of the pregnant woman and her child throughout pregnancy. The Prenatal Program provides comprehensive maternity care (medical, nursing, social services, nutrition and health education) initially at the health department. In additional to on-going maternity care, patients have input on the obstetrician they will be referred to for the latter part of their maternity care and the hospital they want to deliver at. For women with complicated pregnancies the health department refers to High Risk clinic as needed. During 2005, over 1200 women sought maternity care through Seminole County Health Department’s Prenatal Program. The program continues to grow and based on the number of pregnant women served every year, the Seminole County Health Department in one of the county’s largest providers of comprehensive pregnancy health care.
